The Elbe Sandstone Mountains have been developed for tourism from Dresden since the middle of the 18th century. Many hikers enjoyed the rugged rock world. The Swiss painters Adrian Zingg and Anton Graff are said to have named "Saxon Switzerland" because they reminded them of their homeland.
